Tour Overview

Northern Tanzania, is a region rich in wildlife and diverse ecosystems, making it a birder's paradise. Our 9-day birding tour will take you on a journey to explore some of the most spectacular birding sites in the region, from the vast plains of the Serengeti to the stunning landscapes of the Ngorongoro Crater to the Tarangire river.

During this tour, you will have the chance to observe over 250 bird species, including some of the most iconic and elusive, such as the Red-and-yellow barbet, African fish eagle, Martial eagle, Grey-crowned crane, Fisher’s lovebird, and many more. You will also have the opportunity to see a variety of migratory birds that visit the region from September to April.

In addition, you will also have the opportunity to witness some of the most spectacular wildlife spectacles in the world, such as the wildebeest migration and the Big Five game animals. Itinerary

  • Arrive at the airport, where you will be greeted by our crew and sent to your accommodation in Arusha. You will meet our bird guide in the evening for a tour briefing.

  • We depart to Arusha National Park we will look out for some of the species we hope to observe including the Scaly Spurfowl, Hildebrandt's Spurfowl (Endemic to EA), Scarce Swift, Mottled Swift, African Emerald Cuckoo, Tambourine Dove, African Crake, Corn Crake, Lesser Moorhen, Allen's Gallinule, African Cuckoo-Hawk, Ovambo Sparrowhawk, Red-fronted Parrot, Retz's Helmetshrike, Moustached Grass Warbler, Brown Woodland Warbler, Trilling Cisticola, Winding Cisticola, Short-winged Cisticola, Broad-ringed White-eye (Tanzania endemic), White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher, Rüppell's Robin-Chat, Green Twinspot, Orange-breasted Waxbill, Pangani Longclaw (endemic to North East Africa), Grey-headed Nigrita, Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, Abbott's Starling (Endemic to EA), Waller's Starling, African Black Swift, and Bronzy Sunbird. Overnight in Arusha.

  • Drive up to central Serengeti where we will have an opportunity for a wildlife viewing during this viewing, you'll have the chance to look out and observe targeted bird species, including Grey-breasted spurfowl, Coqui francolins, Hartlaub's bustard, Denham's bustard, Fischer's lovebird (Tanzania endemic), Karamoja Apalis, Harlequin Quail, Small button Quail, Usambiro barbet, Grey-crested helmet shrike, White-headed sawwing, Horus swift, Red-throated swift, Little weaver, Speke's weaver, Red-capped larks, Melodious lark, Foxy lark, Flappet Lark, Cardinal quelea, Verreaux eagle owl, Woodland kingfisher, Yellow-throated longclaw, Plain-backed pipit, Two-banded courser, Heuglin's courser, Croaking Cisticola, Stout Cisticola, Black-lored Babbler, African scops owl, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Steppe Eagle, Booted Eagle, Brown Snake Eagle, Long-crested Eagle, Black-faced waxbills, Grey-backed Fiscals, and the Tanzania Red-billed Hornbill.

  • We will spend 2 days birding in central Serengeti looking out for targeted species around central Serengeti.

  • Embark on a journey to the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day of birdwatching and thrilling big game drives. Following the exciting adventures in the Ngorongoro Crater, we'll make our way back to Karatu Village for an overnight stay.

  • Your birding experience will be highlighted by the breathtaking Endoro Falls and the renowned elephant caves. These remarkable caves have been meticulously carved out of the rock by elephants that frequent the region in search of the salt within the stone. Nestled on the southern fringes of the Ngorongoro forest, the journey commences from a newly opened trail near Gibbs Farm in Karatu. You will be conveniently picked up from your accommodation and transported to the trailhead to embark on your birding adventure. As you traverse the forest, you'll encounter various wildlife, including the diminutive dik-dik, the world's smallest antelope species, and a rich diversity of birdlife. Keep an eye out for the Nyanza Swift, Schalow's Turaco, White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, White-headed Saw-wing, Red-faced Cisticola, Singing Cisticola, Rock-loving Cisticola, Brown-headed Apalis, Grey-capped Warbler, Jackson's Widowbird, Fan-tailed Widowbird, Red-cowled Widowbirds, Holub's Golden Weaver, Yellow-mantled Widowbird, Scarlet-tufted Sunbird, Abyssinian Crimsonwing, Hunter's Cisticola, Mbulu White-eye, Golden-winged Sunbird, Eastern Double-collared Sunbird, Tacazze Sunbird, Brown Parisoma, Hildebrand Spurfowl, Grey-headed Nigrita, Fischer's Lovebird, Eastern Mountain Greenbul, Grey Olive Greenbul, Placid Greenbul, and many more. Overnight in Tarangire National Park

  • We commence the day with an early birding and morning game drive viewing. Tarangire is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts also known for its massive elephant herds, Tarangire River, this park boasts diverse flora and fauna within its savannah and woodlands. The park's striking landscapes and abundant wildlife make it a must-visit destination for safari, offering a unique and memorable experience in the heart of Tanzania. Your game drive might be rewarded with the sites of lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, gerenuk, reedbuck, and perhaps even the rare fringe-eared oryx, and hundreds of bird species. The target bird species we aim to spot include the Yellow-necked Spurfowl, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, White-bellied Bustard, Buff-crested Bustard, Hartlaub's Bustard, Great Spotted Cuckoo, Yellow-throated Sandgrouse, Black-faced Sandgrouse, Double-banded Courser, Abdim's Stork, Rufous-bellied Heron, Steppe Eagle, Eastern Grey Woodpecker, Meyer's Parrot, Red-bellied Parrot, Yellow-collared Lovebird (Tanzania endemic), Fischer's Sparrow-Lark, Northern Pied Babbler, Ashy Starling (Tanzania endemic), Swahili Sparrow, Rufous-tailed Weaver, Black-winged Red Bishop, Blue-capped Cordon-bleu, Rosy-throated Longclaw, Desert Cisticola, Singing Bush Lark, and the White-tailed Lark and many more. Accommodation, lunch, dinner, and inside Park Lodge.

  • On the final day of our tour, we start with an early birding and morning game drive, followed by breakfast at the lodge. After that, it's time to check out and make your way to the airport or your next destination.
